The Supreme Court has stayed holding of by-elections on basis of unauthentic and unverified electoral lists.
A four member bench of the court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the Election Commission to use only verified lists for by-elections.
The Court granted fifteen days time for passage of constitutional amendment in the Parliament to protect membership of twenty-three parliamentarians elected on by-elections during the period when the Election Commission was not properly constituted in the light of 18th amendment.
