Federal minister for information and broadcasting Sherry Rahman has said the present elected government welcomes constructive criticism.
Addressing a news conference in Karachi, she said the critical figures presented by the UNDP are based on the last year’s situation. Sherry Rahman said the government’s 100 days proved better than 1500 days of the previous government which led to crash in stock market, gave rise to sugar crisis and throttled the judiciary. Recounting the government’s achievements during its 100 days in power, the minister said an undisputed and consensus Prime Minister was elected, the four provincial governments were formed unanimously, efforts were made to overcome flour crisis, wheat was imported instead of being exported, the minister said the country would be made self-reliant in food within one year. She said a utility store will be opened in every union council. Sherry Rahman pointed out that the government inherited budget deficit of 36 billion dollars. She also noted that the PPP government’s efforts through IPP’s helped save 300 megawatt of electricity. The electricity production would be enhanced by 3,000 megawatt within one year. The information minister said one major achievement of the government was to repeal the pemra laws of the 3rd November.
