In Occupied Kashmir, the Indian independence day, today, was observed as black day, which was featured by a complete shutdown.
According to Kashmir media service all business establishments and shops remained closed and traffic was off the roads. Kashmiris hoisted black flags at the roofs of their houses in all cities and towns of the occupied territory. After Juma prayers people in thousands poured into the streets and raised high-pitched anti-India, pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom slogans. A big Pakistani flag was hoisted at Bemina in Srinagar in presence of thousands of people amidst slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and ‘Jeeve Jeeve Pakistan’. Thousands of people held a forceful Anti-India demonstration at Machuwa in Chadoora. Addressing a large gathering outside the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, the Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for passing a resolution in its parliament in support of the people of Kashmir. He urged the people to march, tomorrow, towards Pampore, hometown of the martyred Hurriyet Leader, Shaikh Abdul Aziz to pay homage to him. Later he led a big procession, which terminated at Nigeen. In Brussels, a large number of people held a demonstration outside the Indian embassy. It was led by the executive director of Kashmir centre, barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo. After the demonstration, a memorandum was presented to the embassy calling upon the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh to implement the united nations security council resolutions on the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, withdraw the troops from the occupied territory and release all political prisoners.
