Eight members of one Iraqi family, including three women and two children, were killed when an old mine brought home by one of their children exploded inside their house.

Police said the incident occurred in the morning in Al-Bataha, a rural area about 350 Kilometres south of Baghdad Officials said a child from the family had found an old mine and was holding it and hitting the bomb when it exploded.One other family member was injured. Meanwhile, Iraq has postponed provincial elections originally set for October after mps failed to agree to the necessary legislation in time, in a blow for US-backed efforts to consolidate national reconciliation. Iraq was due to go to the polls on October 1st, but the long-awaited legislation that would govern the ballot has faced repeated delays over the political treatment of the disputed northern oil province of Kirkuk.
