Flash floods triggered by heavy rains in different parts of the country have left over 50 people dead and caused huge losses to property and crops.
The worst hit areas are Peshawar city and the adjacent Khyber Agency where at least 17 people lost their lives, many sustained serious injuries while scores of houses were swept away. In Balochistan, seven persons were killed when torrential rains and floods inundated various areas. At least one thousand five hundred houses were damaged.District Bolan has been cut off from other parts of the country due to heavy rains and floods.A large number of cattle were swept away by flash flood, which also caused damage to about 1500 acres of crops.Balochistan’s Musa Killah, Barkhan, Lora Lai, Zhob, Bolan, Sibbi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Naseerabad, Jafferabad and Shirani areas were the worst hit, where ten people died and over 500 houses were damaged. Coastal highway was also affected by the flood. And in Punjab, seventy-six villages were affected by heavy rains and floods in Rajanpur district. At least five people died. Cotton crop over 50,000 acres of land and some 700 houses were damaged. The district administration has launched rescue and relief activities. In Sindh, some areas of Dadu district were also hit by floods. Pakistan army troops have started rescue and relief operations in the affected areas and shifted the flood affectees to safer places.The NWFP government has set up relief camps in government buildings for the affected people About three thousand blankets and one thousand tents have been dispatched for the flood Victism in NWFP while two thousand tents have also been sent to Sindh as precautionary measure. Red crescent Punjab has set up a camp in Lahore to collect relief goods for the flood victims of NWFP and Balochistan. It has appealed to the people to deposit relief items at the office of Red Crescent Punjab, so that they could be dispatched to the victims promptly.
